GTM Container Playground
Welcome to the GTM Container Playground. This page is a dedicated sandbox environment designed for analytics engineers to safely test their Google Tag Manager configurations and ggLowCodeGTMKit variables.
How to test your variables
Section titled βHow to test your variablesβTesting variables requires a live Google Tag Manager container. Follow these steps to connect your container to this page:
- Open Tag Assistant: Open tagassistant.google.com in a new browser tab.
- Start a Preview: Click Add Domain and enter this exact page URL:
https://youdontknowga.com/playground/gtm/. Click Connect. - Inject Your Container: Once the new window opens (you are now looking at it), paste your Container ID (
GTM-XXXXXXX) into the box below and click Connect GTM. - Fire Events: Use the DataLayer Toolset buttons to push mock ecommerce and standard events. You will instantly see these events appear in your Tag Assistant window, allowing you to inspect how your variables evaluate them.
1. Connect Your Container
Enter your Google Tag Manager ID to dynamically inject the container into this page.
Advanced: Custom JSON Payload
This JSON is automatically injected before GTM loads. You can also edit it and push it manually at any time.
2. Trigger Test Events
Push mock GA4 events to the dataLayer to test your variables.
Note on Security: Your GTM Container ID is never saved or sent to any server. This injection happens entirely locally in your browser session. As soon as you refresh the page, the container is removed.
